Protesting lawyers locked the civil courts in Multan on Tuesday. The protestors started locking from senior civil court where a case hearing was in process. Staff of some of the courts voluntarily locked the courts to avoid any clash. After locking district courts, lawyers rally reached session court and locked the courts.
The government has decided to take stiff action against the rebel lawyers, for which, the President has issued an Ordinance making amendment in the Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils Act 1973.The lawyers' community of the twin city of Rawalpindi and Islamabad on Tuesday observed total boycott of the court proceedings on the call of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) president, Ali Ahmad Kurd.
The lawyers in Multan district courts stayed away from the court proceedings observing complete strike as SCBA president had given this strike call in connection with the ongoing struggle of lawyers for the restoration of deposed judges. The lawyers boycotted the courts for the second consecutive day like Monday on the eve of November 3, the black day.
Under the amended Ordinance-2008 effective forthwith, committees and tribunals will be set up for conducting enquiries into the charges levelled against the lawyers for violating the rules. The Ordinance empowers such committees and tribunals to reprimand, suspend and stop from practising besides slapping penalty on the lawyers, if found guilty of violations. Furthermore, it would also have the power to call for any witness or record in this connection.
