In a surprise move, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has banned middle order batsman Muhammad Yousuf for re-joining Indian Cricket League (ICL). PCB Director Cricket Operations Zakir Khan told reporters here on Wednesday that the Board has also terminated central contract of Muhammad Yousuf, therefore, he would not be considered for selection in future.
PCB deplores Yousuf's act of joining the ICL, hence, he has been banned for playing cricket at all levels. However, Zakir said that no time frame has been fixed in the ban and this punishment can not be called 'life ban' for Yousuf. The PCB will also be recovering the amount, which it spent on a case in a court in India in which ICL challenged Yousuf's joining of IPL after signing contract with them.
"If required we will be taking Yousuf to court on joining ICL and to recover the amount PCB spent on his case," Zakir added. He said PCB Chairman Ejaz Butt tried to contact Yousuf through phone but he could not succeed, as only through media reports from India we came to know that Yousuf has again joined ICL.
SALIM MALIK'S APPOINTMENT DENIED Answering a question, Zakir clarified that PCB has neither offered nor appointed Salim Malik as the head coach of the National Cricket Academy. He said he has spoken to International Cricket Council President on the issue of Salim Malik and informed him that PCB did not assign him any job of coaching.
He also made it clear that PCB has not received any resignation of wicket keeping coach Rashid Latif who protested through media against Salim Malik's reported appointment.
