Thai share prices finished flat on Wednesday as late traders took profits after bargain hunters buoyed the market during the morning session, dealers said. The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) composite index lost 0.26 points to close at 457.36 points, while the blue chip SET-50 index dropped 0.03 points to 321.95.
Losers led gainers 214 to 130, with 101 stocks unchanged on turnover of 8.54 billion shares worth 19.13 billion baht (547 million dollars). The Thai baht was little changed against the dollar, finishing at 34.97-99 from Tuesday's 34.96-98 baht. The unit weakened against the euro, at 44.84-45.06 from 44.33-44.
Chai Chirasevenupraphand, an analyst at Nomura Capital Securities, said the market rose during morning trade before falling later. "The market jumped 20 points and closed higher in the morning, opening steadily in the afternoon before falling for short-term profit taking," Chai said.
Top energy firm PTT and its subsidiary PTT Exploration both closed unchanged at 183.00 baht and 99.00 baht respectively, while Banpu, a major coal miner, was up 8.00 at 206.00. The country's biggest lender Bangkok Bank advanced 1.00 to 78.00, Siam Commercial Bank added 0.50 to 58.50 while Kasikornbank was unchanged at 53.50. The kingdom's biggest telephone operator Advance Info Service closed 2.00 baht higher at 80.00, while flagship carrier Thai Airways edged down 0.40 to 8.55.
