Scientific progress in agriculture sector will bring radical changes would help achieve basic goals of reducing poverty and ensuring food security, the Minister of State for Food, Agriculture and Livestock (Minfal), Rafiq Ahmad Jamali said in a briefing on Thursday.
The Additional Secretary, Food Ministry, Raja Shahid delivered the briefing while the Secretary, Minfal was also present there. The minister said that the government is giving top priority to agriculture sector to meet the emerging challenges. He urged the experts to realise their potential saying that technologies must effectively reach the doorstep of farmers.
'Despite substantial development in the industrial and services sector, agriculture still dominates the economy,' Jamali maintained. Raja Shahid highlighted the challenges mentioned about food security for 160 million people, producing raw materials for agro- based and its allied industries of an economy growing at the rate of 6 percent.
