Trade Unions have welcomed the Federal Cabinet's decision to reinstate all government employees sacked between November 1996-December 1998, including those of the Sui Northern and Southern Gas pipeline Company and banks. However they demanded extension in the period till the year 2007 as the government of former President Pervez Mushrraf had removed thousands of employees from Pakistan Steel, HBL, ABL, UBL, KPT and OGDC.
The Secretary General, Trade Unions Federation, Ashfaq Ahmed Khan, Chairman, Movement of Workers, Taj Muhammad Souz and President, MDA workers union, Shah Wali Rajput said in separate statements that committee comprising Raza Rabbani, Ghulam Ahmad Bilour, Manzoor Wattoo, Naveed Qamar, Sherry Rehman, Rehmatullah Kakar, Shaukat Tarin and former Justice Abdul Razzaq Thaheem should work out the financial implications and oversee the implementation of the decision.
They said that Government employees recruited between November 1993-November 2007 had been removed between November 1996- December 2007. Moreover, it is a pity that the present regime had ignored the era of a dictator, who destroyed the institutions and sacked the pro-democracy people ruthlessly.
