Punjab Population Welfare Minister Neelam Jabbar Chaudhry has said that paramedics and nurses play vital role in provision of the healthcare facilities to the patients, therefore they are the backbone of our healthcare system.
Talking to delegations of nurses and paramedics here on Friday, she said in recognition of their services, the curricula and training of the paramedics need to be upgraded. "Paramedics and nurses should aware of the changes in the world regarding their field, therefore they should be given opportunities of refresher courses so that they can be able to provide healthcare facilities to the patients in a better way," she added.
According to her, the serving to ailing humanity is a noble job, therefore the nurses are performing their duties as a sacred mission. Nurses and paramedical staff have a vital role in providing basic health facilities to the people at grass root level, thus they should perform their duties with dedication, devotion, zeal and zest.
It is the need of the hour to raise the standard of paramedic's education and training as well as fostering public private partnership. The Minister said the government was committed to upgrade the nursing services and sensitise the problems being faced by this most vital sector of healthcare system. "The government feels that this sector was neglected section in past and hence steps would be taken to boost the nursing cadre and upgrade the socio-economic condition of the people concerned besides to improve the working skill of nurses. It is the need of the hour to up grade the curriculum of the nursing and made it according to the requirements of modern medical curricula," she added.
She stressed the need to set a vision and the stature of nurses/paramedics in the society. She said if we implement the curriculum according to the requirement of present age, there are hundreds of thousands posts vacant in United States and other countries, hence the qualified nurses would be able to serve the nation in and outside the country, she added.
