Guzara Allowance along with, some important schemes launched by Central Zakat Council in the interest of poor beneficiaries were discussed at length in a briefing to Noor-ul-Qadri, Minister for Zakat and Ushr here on Friday including Educational Stipends, Healthcare, Social Welfare, Marriage Grant and Scholarships for Technical Education.Khawas Khan Nagi informed the minister about sanctioned strength of the Ministry.
He further informed that about 4.00 billion are annually collected as Zakat from pre-determined eleven assets while annual budget is nearly double. The deficit is met out of accumulated reserves, which have almost been depleted.
The minister was informed about Zakat disbursement mechanism ie Central Zakat Council, Provincial Zakat Council, District Zakat Committees and Local Zakat Committees. The budgeted amount is transferred by Central Zakat Council to Provincial Zakat Councils on population basis. The Provincial Zakat Councils distribute available funds among District Zakat Committees on population basis while District Zakat Committees transfer funds to Local Zakat Committees on need basis.
