The Chairman, Technical and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta), Mohsin Syed has said that the Authority is working according to Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif's agro-based policy offering short courses related to agriculture.
He said this in a certificate distribution ceremony held at Tevta's Secretariat for the trainees who completed two-month short course under Artificial Insemination Technician training programme.
The Managing Director, Pro-Farm Pakistan, Steven Schulting, Member Tevta Board and President, Board of Management, Okara, Mian Shahid Rafi, President, Board of Management, Sahiwal, Mian Muhammad Saeed Akhtar, Tevta officers, teachers and students were also present on the occasion. Explaining the detail of the programme, Tevta Chief said out of 65 pass-outs of this course, 42 have found jobs while others are doing their own business.
'It is a success story of Tevta in accordance with the mandate of Authority,' he said. These trainees would help promote the livestock sector in the province Punjab. In addition to catering the local needs, lot of foreign exchange can be earned through export of dairy products.
Syed said that Tevta in collaboration with Pro-Farm Pakistan (Pvt) Ltd, a Holland based agri-company, has successfully started the short training course in Artificial Insemination at Government Technical Training Institute Okara, which will enhance milk production through better breeds.
Further, talking about the course, he said, Tevta has arranged space, classrooms, examination and certification while Pro-Farm Pakistan (Pvt) has managed master trainer, development of training curriculum, on-job training and employment opportunities for the successful trainees.
'Pakistan is an agriculture based country and we have a lot of natural and human potential,' he said adding that agriculture sector always played vital role for the promotion of national economy of the country. 'Our rural population has livestock based living. Tevta is contributing to enhance the employment potential hidden in the youth belonging to lower income group of these areas,' he concluded.
