On the first day of filing nomination papers, the election committee of Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has received 50 submissions against 30 vacant seats of managing committee of KCCI. All of the 30 nominations were filed from Businessmen Group (BMG) of Siraj Kasim Teli fraction.
This is the first time that election of all 30 seats of managing committees of KCCI is going to be held under new Trade Organisation Rules. Up till last year, elections were held for only 15 vacant seats out of 30. Out of 50 nominations, 30 nominees are to contest the elections and 20 have filed as covering candidates waiting in case some candidates withdraw their nomination papers on any ground.
The KCCI elections will be held in accordance with the election rules and procedure as given in Rules 16 to 21 of the Trade Organisation rules, 2007 The elections would be held on the basis of voters' list updated as on July 31,2008. The tenure of all office bearers will expire on September 30,2009.
The BMG supported candidates are: Mohammed Jawed Bilwani, Junaid Makda, Younus Bashir, Abdul Razaq Agar, Arif , Atique, Ansi, Ovais Siddiq Jangda Mohammed Mohsin, Abdul Basit, all from Gugrati speaking group. Mohammed Ali, Shamim, Mumtaz Ahmed, Masroor, Mohammed Ilyas, Rashid Uddin, Zia Ahmed, Qamar Usman, Shams and Attique-ur- Rahman from Urdu speaking and Anjum Nisar, Faysal Khalil Ahmed, Tanveer , Shariq Vohra, Nadim Zafar, Naeem, Jawed Ahmed Vohra, Islam Hamid, Khurram Saigal and Nasir Mahmood from Punjabi speaking fraction.
Further, November 13 is the last date for receiving nomination papers and election of managing committee seats will be held on November 22,2008 while elections of office bearers will be held on November 27.
