Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Faisal Karim Kundi has lauded the support provided by Germany in various development projects, and expressed the hope that German government will continue to support Pakistan in its hour of need.
Talking to German Ambassador-designate to Pakistan Michael Koch here on Monday, Kundi stressed the need for enhancing people-to-people contact between the two countries, saying that it would help to diversify existing economic and commercial co-operation.
He asked for the German support in overcoming the energy crisis, as Pakistan was facing acute energy crisis and needed support from friends to address this problem. Kundi said that Pakistan attached great importance to its relations with Germany, and emphasised the need for further consolidating the relationship between the two nations.
He said that the new democratic set-up emerged after February 18 general elections was busy in creating a peaceful atmosphere and was trying to amicably resolve all problems and challenges being faced by the country. He said that Pakistan was committed to peace and stability in the region and elimination of extremism and terrorism.
The Deputy Speaker said that extremism and terrorism could only be eliminated by addressing its root causes. He attributed poverty, unemployment, illiteracy and lack of basic amenities to the root causes behind this menace, saying that the government would uproot the menace with the support of friendly countries.
Apprising about the "adoption of unanimous resolution by all political parties on the issue of national security and curbing extremism," he said the this resolution was a great achievement of the Parliament, which would go a long way resolving the issue of terrorism and extremism. He apprised the envoy about the functioning of the Parliament and National Assembly Standing Committees.
Michael Koch acknowledged the concerns of the Deputy Speaker, and said that Germany would extend all-out support to Pakistan in addressing extremism terrorism. He said that his government also attached importance to its relations with Pakistan and would extend maximum diplomatic and economic support in diverse fields. The Ambassador agreed for exchange of parliamentary and trade delegation between both the countries.
