Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, Quaid of PML-N on Monday stressed the need for implementing the Charter of Democracy (CoD) saying that this will help the political forces to address economic and all other problems.
Implementation of the CoD will not only help strengthen the democratic institutions but also provide a path to steer the country out of the present horrible situation, Nawaz said while talking to media here.
He said that he wants the democracy flourish and strengthen in Pakistan but not the democracy which former military dictator Pervez Musharraf left behind. "We have to give people something different and resolve the problems as early as possible," he added.
He said that he and his party has grudge with President Asif Zardari that he has not fulfilled the promises he made with him and other people. Despite reservations, his party will continue to support the government to fulfil the obligations and the mandate given by the nation, he added. "I will continue my efforts to convince President Zardari for the completion of national agenda for the welfare of the people and development of the country by implementing the CoD with complete determination."
Nawaz said that he met Zardari on his invitation and the CoD and restoration of judges were discussed during the meeting. He said that President Zardari should use his offices and the government to address the problems of people for which they have given mandate to their favourite parties on February 18.
He said that they want to cooperate with the government for the end of economic crisis and other issues of national interest. "We are ready to cooperate with the government to bail out the country from present economic turmoil and bring the threats on western border to an end," Nawaz said.
Replying to a question regarding re-opening of cases of National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against him and his family members, Sharif said there is no case against him and he has no doubts about the government. He dispelled the impression of any mid-term elections saying his desire is that the government should complete its term. He termed his meeting with the Chinese envoy as a matter of routine and said he would likely visit China next year for which he has already received invitation.
