Saarc physiological conference is a hallmark in scientific research fie1ds This was stated by Dr Sibtul Husnain, President Prime Minister and DC while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 1st South Asian Conference and 11th Biennial Conference of Pakistan Physiological Society hosted by Shifa College of Medicine here on Monday.
The regions belonging to the Saarc countries are the most popular in the world. "I can see that this is the first step to hold the conference and a beginning towards collective research and education which will provide the scholars and scientists, to the area", he added. The theme of the conference was Physiological updates-trends, opportunities and challenges.
The chairman of the organising Committee Professor Nasir Afzal, Head of Physiology Dept of Basic Sciences, Shifa College of Medicine gave a welcome note to the audience who were not only from the medical universities and colleges but also representatives from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Bulgaria and Canada.
Dr Mumtaz Memon, President Pakistan Physiological Society (PPS) informed that the proceedings of the conference would be published as a special supplement of "Pakistan Journal of Physiology" an official publication of Pakistan Physiological Society. Dr Mohammad Fahim, Representative from India (International Advisory Board) introduced SAAP.
According to Dr Nasir Afzal, the main purpose of the conference is to provide a platform to exchange information, ideas and concepts on research. This will not only stimulate further research but will also provide an opportunity for collaboration to the scientists' and medical teachers of Saarc and other countries of the region. At the end souvenirs were distributed among office-bearers of Pakistan Physiological Society. The closing ceremony of the conference will take place on November 12.-PR
