The rupee made sharp recovery against dollar on the interbank market and it also touched the new high at 79.00 on the open market on Monday, currency experts observed. The rupee gained 32 paisa in relation to dollar on the interbank market for buying and selling at 80.78 and 80.83, they said.
In the first Asian trading yen fell against dollar and the euro as a rally in Asian shares improved investors' appetite for risk, reducing demand for the Japanese currency. Asian shares were boosted by China's launch of a huge economic stimulus plan on Sunday, following a rebound on Wall Street on Friday.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee was sharply up against dollar, rising 1.90 for buying at 79.00 and it gained also 2.00 fro selling at 79.30, dealers said. The rupee followed suit in terms of the euro for buying and selling at Rs 101.00 and Rs 102.15, they said.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The rupee gained 100 paisa on buying side against dollar while it remained unchanged on the selling side at Lahore currency market on Monday. The dollar closed at Rs 79.00 on buying counter and at Rs 81.00 on selling counter against Saturday's Rs 80.00 and Rs 81.00, respectively. The rupee also showed strength against British pound. The pound was purchased and sold at Rs 123.00 and Rs 129.00 as compared to last week closing of Rs 127.00 and Rs 129.00, respectively.
It is worth mentioning that the difference in the buying and selling rates of foreign currencies has significantly increased, to which moneychangers said that they had bought foreign currencies at high rates and thus could not afford loss. In view of prevailing trend, the moneychangers are expecting further recovery in rupee value.
