Federal Minister for Law and Justice Farooq H Naek on Monday offered deposed judges including Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry for a fresh oath saying the government would keep their seniority intact. Addressing the media after a meeting at Federal Judicial Academy (FJA), Naek said that almost 90 per cent of deposed judges have taken a fresh oath and are performing their duties.
While hinting towards judges who did not take a fresh oath, he said the remaining have resorted to politics. They should take a fresh oath as politics was neither in favour of judiciary nor of the country, he added. He said no one should bank upon judiciary for his political career. Lawyers and deposed judges interested in politics should establish their parties if they were serious in politics, he added.
While briefing about details of the meeting he said for a speedy access to justice evening courts are being established across the country. At fist phase, courts would be established in Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, Peshawar and Rawalpindi respectively.
He said that we have discussed about the timings of these courts which would be extended up to 5 pm. Access to Justice Program would provide the required funds for these courts, he added. Naek said that in order to reach a decision regarding implementation of these decisions, a meeting has been called after fortnight. Access to justice is our slogan and following the mission of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, the government is moving forward to ensure access to justice, he said.
