Economy Monitoring Committee (EMC) has directed the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock (Minfal) to distribute wheat stocks judiciously amongst the provinces. EMC which met with Shaukat Tarin, Adviser to Prime Minister on Finance in the chair on Monday was informed that Minfal has currently a balance stock of 3.25 million tonnes of wheat while another 455 thousand tonnes of imported wheat has already landed to supplement the balance stocks.
After detailed discussion over wheat crisis and complaints from some of the provinces regarding wheat distribution, the EMC advised Minfal and Commerce Ministry to ensure that the deficient areas be actively targeted to facilitate the common man.
Shaukat Tarin directed the concerned ministries to ensure that in future sufficient stocks of all essential commodities are procured and distribution system is duly streamlined to meet any emergent situation, said a press release issued by the Finance Ministry.
