Provincial Minister for labour Muhammad Ashraf Sohna has said that present government was committed to protect the rights of the workers who are the backbone of the industry, however we would not let them exercise their right of strike, demonstrations and rallies.
Delivering his speech at the executive committee meeting of Multan Chamber of commerce and Industry chaired by Khawaja Muhammad Jalal-uddin Roomi the Minister said that employers and employees were two wheels of a carriage and both should keep their responsibilities, duties, and interests in mind and both should work hard to boost the production of the industry.
The Minister said that giving-hand is sacred and it should maintain its sanctity by meeting the smaller needs of their workers. During speech his blood pressure shot up and his voice gagged. The Social Security doctors provided him immediate medical aid. Later he was removed to Multan institute of cardiology where his condition is stated to be out of danger.
Earlier Commissioner of Punjab Employees Social Security Nadeem Aslam said that it is an institution of the employers, which would be run with their financial assistance, guidance and suggestions. He said that Management committees were formed in Multan, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Lahore and other stations to look after the PESSI hospitals and dispensaries.
President Chamber of commerce and Industry would be chairman of the committee while Medical superintendent would be secretary and three members each from employers and employees would also be member of these committees. A notification regarding the appointment of Khawaja Muhammad Jalal-uddin Roomi as Chairman of Multan PESSI committee would be notified in a couple of days. He assured that educational institutions would also be given under the supervision of chambers.
Earlier, Khawaja Muhammad Jalal-uddin Roomi said in his welcome address that industrialists were hard-pressed due to power-gas load shedding, higher wages of workers and utility tariff and Punjab government should convey our message to federal government and other concerned quarters that cost of production was increasing day by day which caused decline in exports. He said that government should provide relief to the industrialists.
