Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday said there was no shortage of tents, medicines or quilts in the quake hit areas of Balochistan. "There is so much of aid that we are having problems in its distribution. I assure you that for the next three months there will be no shortage of food," he said speaking in the National Assembly.
The Prime Minister said there were tonnes of medicines in stock for the areas, affected by the earthquake and several mobile hospitals, including that of army, were working to provide relief to people.
He said similarly, 100,000 quilts were also lying in reserve. The Prime Minister said he announced Rs 300,000 while the President gave Rs 250,000 each for those who lost their lives in the earthquake, added that he also announced compensation of Rs 100,000 for every injured while the President gave them Rs 50,000 each.
Gilani added that the government was evolving a strategy to construct some 6,000 houses before March. This number, he added, was not sufficient and the government was working on war footing to help the locals construct their own houses according to their own needs.
He said the government was committed to provide those people permanent structures each costing about Rs 350,000. For this purpose people would be given post-dated cheques so that they could start constructing houses after winter, he added.
