Government has successfully accomplished the repair and rehabilitation task of five schools and two hospitals in Lower Dir district which were damaged by the influx of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from Bajaur.
According to a press release issued by Fata secretariat, due to the military operation against the militants an estimated ninety thousand IDPs were residing in twenty-three camps in Lower Dir in August. These camps were established in educational institutional buildings, hospitals, play-grounds and meadows.
However, these, IDPs caused extensive damage to these public buildings. The furniture was broken and used for firewood, while the water and sanitation systems were damaged due to overuse. Many of the buildings were stripped electrical equipment like fans, light switches and wiring.
The press release further disclosed that the district government of Lower Dir and their communities requested that the five schools and two hospitals be rehabilitated and to fix the buildings to compensate them for the inconvenience caused by the forced displacement of the Bajaur IDPs.
