The government on Thursday said that the parliamentarians should not be a part of any campaign to defame the politicians and political parties, as this would hurt the nascent democracy.
Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Dr Babar Awan taking part in the debate on President address to the joint session said that such campaign are launched by the vested interests to dent the democratic system and urged parliamentarians to not be part of these campaigns.
He said that leader of opposition in the National Assembly in the garb of accountability and charter of democracy (CoD) targeted President Asif Ali Zardari and other PPP leadership, but we don't want to waste time on allegations and counter allegations.
He said that under CoD, chairman of PAC to be appointed by leader of the opposition in the House. "It was not written that leader of opposition himself claim the slot, he would have given it to any other party", he added.
About independence of judiciary he said that Article 3(A) of CoD recommends appointment of judges by a judicial commission, whose chairman will be chief justice, adding from where we import judges, who have not taken oath under PCO.
Commenting on Kashmir issue he said that we will not put it on the back burner as trade across the Line of Control has started, which will increase interaction among Kashmiris. Parliamentary committee on Kashmir has been formed, he responded, adding that the issue will not go unattended.
Rebutting Chaudhry Nisar's charges on development funds utilisation, he said that all MPs are getting equal funds for development of their respective constituencies, even women have been provided equal opportunities in all walks of life.
On ministries distributions, he negated leader of the opposition saying that postal services ministry was formed to serve the masses and it is earning profit. It will also help in distribution of BISP funds, which will be increased to Rs 100 billion, he added.
"Nisar talked about NRO and I do not know which NRO he is referring to and do not want to go into details", he remarked. He further said that under Article 4 of CoD, a federal commission will be set up with the representation of all federating units for making any amendment in it. "We have to respect each others mandate as PPP is supporting Punjab government under the article", he added. He appealed all the banks that the remittances from expatriates should come through legal means to strengthen the country's economy.
