Chief Minister Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif has said that young generation is the future of Pakistan and it would be unpardonable if any laxity was shown in educating and training the youths. He expressed these views while addressing a function at special education and training centre arranged by National Society for the Mentally and Emotionally Handicapped Children (NSMEHC) at Johar Town on Thursday in connection with World Children Day.
Former Chief Minister Sindh Syed Ghous Ali Shah, President Dr Pervaiz Hassan, General Secretary Professor Khalida Tareen, members of Board of Governors, special children and their parents were also present on the occasion. He said that there was a need for utilising all available resources for the welfare and training of special children for making them useful citizens of the society. The Chief Minister also announced a sum of Rs 10 million for NSMEHC.
Shahbaz Sharif said that National Society for the Mentally and Emotionally Handicapped Children was rendering invaluable services for education and training of special children and philanthropists and God-fearing persons who were donating generously for the institute deserve all appreciation.
He said that education and training of special children was the responsibility of the government and it would discharge all its obligations in this regard. He said that government had approved setting up of an Education Endowment Fund with a hefty sum of Rs two billion. He said that the fund would be utilised on the education of all such talented and brilliant students, who want to pursue higher studies but cannot afford educational expenditure.
He said that such children would also be provided necessary resources for free education abroad. He said that special children would also be able to benefit from this fund. He said that if the institution identified any government land for its project, it would be handed over to it within 24 hours.
He said that he fully appreciated the humanitarian spirit of the persons who were extending financial assistance to the institution. The Chief Minister while commenting on the speech of a disabled child Naheed Younas said that such confident and determined children were the asset of the country.
