Promotions in police department: Senate body seeks detailed report in two weeks
Senate Standing Committee on Interior on Friday took serious note of the out of turn promotions in Police Department and sought a detailed report in two weeks. Chairman of Standing Committee, Senator Muhammad Talha Mahmood criticised the out of turn promotions and said that the police department should submit a detailed report within two weeks.
The report will help to analyse the whole situation, Talha Mehmood said, adding that it will help the committee to know the justifications of these promotions. He said that police department is one of key departments of law enforcement and if merit will not be taken into consideration and promotions are not made on merit, it will bring frustrate other officials.
Talha called upon the police officers and concerned departments to consider merit in promotions. The performance of police department is questionable and out of turn promotions will create large scale issues, he said, adding that today country is facing worse conditions of law and order situation and if we failed to make right decisions, it will further create problems.
Meanwhile, a meeting of the sub-Committee of the Standing Committee on Interior to be held on November 15 (Saturday). Issues related to the progress made by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and cellular-phone Companies after expiry of deadline given by the Committee for deactivation of illegal/unverified SIMS, verification of old SIMs to be discussed.
It will also review Sale of SIMs through Online Verification System and other related issues. Besides members of the sub committee, officials and representatives of Ministry of Interior, Cabinet Division, Ministry of Information Technology, Chairman PTA, Chairman Nadra, Chief Commissioner, Islamabad, Inspectors General of Police, Islamabad, Regional Police Officer, Rawalpindi. The Chairman of the Committee, Senator Muhammad Talha Mahmood has desired to hold this meeting open for Print Media for proper coverage of the proceedings of the meeting.
