World Quality Day was celebrated throughout the world on Thursday. This day has become a symbol for the nations across the world to focus and promote quality improvements in their societies, including their products, services, government and academia. Quality improvement, both at the national as well as organisational level, has become a professional field by itself.
Most of the developed countries have developed national schemes and programmes to raise the level of quality. In Pakistan, quality is presently being addressed at the level of Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Industries and some other private and public organisations.
The whole infrastructure of Quality is presently native, ineffective and insufficient for which the public is being victimised on a daily basis. There is an urgent need for this issue to become a top agenda point in the government, parliament, and the various national bodies, including Chambers of Commerce, Pakistan Engineering Council, Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, etc.
The Quality and Productivity Society of Pakistan (QPSP), a newly born association of Quality Managers and Professionals, organised a conference to mark the World Quality Day. QPSP South Vice Chairman Dr Syed Mairajuddin Shah highlighted the journey and progress of QPSP since its foundation in 2003. He informed that Health Care and Education chapters were the two pillars of QPSP (South Region) striving to build a better Pakistan.
Health and Education chapters were working very effectively with the vision to improve the quality of life of the people, said Shah. Bahria University, Karachi Campus, Director Ashfaq Agha welcomed the participants. Guest speaker, Nadeem Mustafa Khan, who is the regional CEO of Aga Khan University Hospital, spoke about the role of Quality in Health care.
