National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has started the construction work on 6,000 one-room shelters being planned for the quake survivors of Balochistan in a bid to save them from severe cold. Chairman, NDMA, Lieutenant General Farooq Ahmed Khan (Retd) told PTV News on Sunday that the construction works would be completed in a period of four weeks.
In addition, the survivors would also be provided with more winterised tents. 1600 winterised tents were offered by an organisation out of which, 400 have already been provided to the survivors and 1,200 are in the pipeline, he added.
Lauding the help of friendly countries, he said Saudi Arabia has promised $100 million and 20 C-130 loaded with edibles and other necessary items.
The United States has announced $250 million. China and Al Jazair would give $1 million each. Punjab has given Rs100 million, 1400 tons of food and Sindh has given Rs70 million. In addition, Federal government has sent 150,000 blankets, 15,000 tents and 800 ton food to the affected areas.
