A bill would be tabled in the parliament aiming to declare human rights violations a cognisable offence to ensure honour and dignity for all and sundry, Minister for Human Rights Syed Mumtaz Alam Gilani said.
Talking to a private TV channel, he said human right benches headed by a judge of High court would be set up at district level. In the bench volunteer corps comprising students, lawyers, people from media and civil society would also be included. He urged civil society to keep a close eye on the human right situation in the country and help the government to ensure protecting the dignity of everyone.
However it is need of the hour to eradicate the ills of the past as the grip of extortionist forces is quite tight here. He vowed complete eradication of the menaces of child labour, crimes against women within a period of six months. Parliament would be empowered fully. Responding to a question he conveyed his dismay and resentment that Pakistan citizens were openly sold to international powers just for bounty. Former rulers sold countrymen to world's sole super power just for money. He said the cases of 567 missing persons are being probed. He (Gilani) will hold meeting with the Chairperson of the Defence of Human Rights Amina Masood Janjua on November 18.
