Chief Secretary Sindh Fazal-ur-Rehman has advised the Secretary Transport to get the public transport fare minimised/reduced as and when fuel prices are reduced by the Federal Government.
He recalled his meeting with the Secretary Transport held four days ago, where he categorically noted that in view of commitment made by the concerned stakeholder on the occasion of increase of the Public Transport fares ie "reduction in the fare shall take place with the reduction of oil prices", said a statement issued here on Sunday.
While talking to newsmen the other day, Sindh CS, Fazal-ur-Rehman referred not only the public complaints received in his office, but also observed burden over the commuters affected by the hike in public transport fares. He maintained that the government is keenly interested in facilitating the people through concrete steps in various field.
To a query, he said that in addition to KCR and LRT (Light Rail Transport), the CNG bases are also being introduced under the "Prime Minister Programe for CNG Buses", to 11 cities, country-wide including three cities in Sindh including Karachi, Hyderabad and Sukkur.
500 buses are shortly to be furnished for Karachi, under this program, he noted. Referring to the meeting with the Federal Adviser, Dr Asim Hussain, had on Saturday in Sindh Secretariat, the Chief Secretary pointed out that a plan to construct a Ring Road from Kemari-via-My Kolachi, Sunset Bulley Ward and Hino Chowk Fly over including Korangi Road, Super Highway, Northern Bypass to Kemari Northern initiated for cargo transport. He added DCO, Karachi has been assigned to prepare feasibility report and work plan to this effect.
In the populous areas the elevation would be made, Chief Secretary noted. He also stated that the Sindh Mass Transit Authority is being linked with the regional transport system, under this scheme, he noted, "Rapid Transport companies" are to be constituted in Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur Larkana, and Mirpurkhas, to cater the needs of all districts through these regions.
To a question, Fazal-ur-Rehman elaborated that the task of introducing CNG Rikshawas is under operation, convenient, while conversion of 2 stroke Rickshaws into 4-stroke is also being explored.
