Provincial Information Minister, Mian Iftikhar Hussain has said that first exclusive Pashto TV channel would be launched soon while the spadework to this effect has been completed. The Information Minister stated this at a colourful ceremony held in connection with regional PTV awards 2006.
He congratulated PTV Peshawar Centre management for successfully holding the event at a time when the province was facing unrest in some parts due to militancy. He told the audience that progress has been made in launching the first exclusive Pashto TV channel 'Abaseen'. The day was not far off when people would be watching Pashto transmission round the clock, he added.
The ANP he said was in the process of launching welfare programmes for the local singers, artists and instrumentalists and would leave no stone unturned to promote visual and performing art in the context of local culture and traditions. Referring to the problem of militancy in the province, he made it clear that the government would not succumb to pressure by anyone. 'We have been mandated by the people to serve them and we would respect their verdict,' he stated.
However, he urged the people not to be afraid of the handful of elements, those are out to make hostage the majority and trying to enforce their own will on them by force. The minister appealed to the people to rise against these elements at their level and give them a crushing defeat so that they could not stand up again to challenge the writ of the government. 'We are not in the habit of bowing down under pressure, This message should be noted by all and sundry,' he added.
