Oil and food supplies to North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (Nato) forces in Afghanistan were restored on Monday amid tight security, said eye witnesses and officials of the political administration. Pak-Afghan borders at Chaman, in Balochistan and Torkham border in Khyber Agency are the main supply routes to US-led Nato forces working under the banner of International Security Assistance Force (Isaf).
However, Torkham border is considered the most secured supply route connected with Peshawar-Torkham Highway. The supply was halted in the wake of hijacking of trucks carrying supplies for the Nato forces and World Food Programme (WFP) on the main highway in Jamrud, a town of the Khyber Agency.
"A convoy comprising 26 vehicles including containers, oil tankers and trucks loaded with wheat was allowed journey towards the Pak-Afghan border amid tight security," an official of the political administration said. Six vehicles carrying security forces escorted the convoy while security personnel were also deployed on the highway towards Pak-Afghan border. According to the security plan, two convoys would be allowed to travel towards the border one in the morning while the second in the afternoon.
