Senior Vice President, Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) Jawed Bilwani has urged the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) audit that notices issued without mentioning valid reasons to the commercial importers be withdrawn.
In a communication, he said the commercial imports on payment of advance tax at customs stage are exempted from sales tax audit under chapter-X of SRO, therefore, audit of such commercial importers is not warranted.
He said that the sales tax collectorate is unnecessarily issuing audit notices to the commercial importers and requiring them to provide a plethora of information, records and documents, without mentioning any valid reason. He said that these notices are causing harassment and unrest amongst the commercial importers. He said that notices should be issued only in cases where there is a concrete proof of non-compliance/default.
