Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi has categorically denied that the government had any tacit understanding with US over predator attacks inside Pakistan and pinned hope that the new US administration would review the policy. "There is absolutely no tacit understanding," Qureshi said while speaking in National Assembly here on Monday.
He was responding to a point of order raised by the PML-N MNA Ahsan Iqbal. Referring to story, published in Washington Post, Ahsan Iqbal said that the country's image was being dented with such reports. The government, he said, is not made it public with a clear stance regarding the "tacit understanding".
Pakistan's stance on coalition forces attacks inside Pakistan territory was very clear and it has been raised both nationally and internationally, the Foreign Minister said, adding that during a recent meeting with US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, President Asif Zardari had made Pakistan position clear. He said that the government of Pakistan was using diplomatic channels for implementation of Joint Parliamentary resolution on national security.
He said that Nato Secretary General has dissociated from the predators attacks inside Pakistan. He told the House even US think-tanks have started opposing this policy and added that the coming US administration has promised to review policy regarding predators attacks. The minister said that he has been in contact with the governments of UK, France, Germany and Italy who understand Pakistan position.
