The success of grow more wheat campaign launched in Punjab province would bring sustainability and strengthen national economy. This was stated by Muhammad Javaid Iqbal Awan, Secretary Agriculture Punjab, while presiding over a meeting at Ayub Agricultural Research Institute, Faisalabad to review the grow more wheat campaign of Faisalabad division.
In this meeting agricultural scientists of the division, representative of public and private sector, extension workers and other stakeholders participated. Highlighting the importance of success of grow more wheat campaign the secretary agriculture told that if our province succeeds in producing 20 million tons of wheat it would boost national economy and bring self confidence in nation.
He further stated that agriculture is the most reliable sector of national economy and billions of rupees could be saved with import substitution by increasing wheat production in the country. He exhorted the scientists to perform their professional duties with national spirit and work wholeheartedly for the success of campaign. He asked the scientists to ensure timely sowing of wheat, judicious use of fertilisers, eradication of weeds and help the farmers to achieve these objectives.
In the meeting, sowing of wheat in vacant government lands, establishment of demonstration plots and campaign against the fertiliser and pesticides adulterators was also reviewed. Dr Muhammad Anjum, Director General Agriculture (Extension) also addressed the meeting and informed the participants about the activities of agriculture extension for the success of grow more wheat campaign.
