PPP foundation day celebrations: proposals for peace march, public meeting being considered

Proposals for foundation day celebrations of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) include a peace march besides a grand public meeting, said party sources. "Much depends upon security clearance from relevant quarters and party would go for peace march in case the security agencies extend a clearance to the party leadership," said sources in provincial hierarchy.
Meanwhile, sources from Central Executive Committee of the party have also hinted at the arrival of Hillary Clinton on December 27, the day when Chairperson PPP Benazir Bhutto was martyred in a blast at Liaquat Bagh Rawalpindi.
"Mohtarma was best friend of Hillary Clinton and party is thinking over approaching her to participate the commemoration of Mohtarma's martyr day activities," said the sources. Talking to Business Recorder, party stalwarts pointed out that several proposals are under discussion at the moment and a final decision would be taken by the party co-chairman Asif Zardari on his return from abroad.
It may be noted that the newly appointed PPP Punjab President Rana Aftab Ahmed had attached continuity of party office-bearers province-wide with their performance in foundation day ceremonies, scheduled for November 30.
Rana Aftab Ahmed had informed reporters last week that only the best performers would secure their continuity with party offices. According to him, the PPP has decided to revive party position in the province of Punjab through foundation day celebrations, culminating on commemorations of Benazir Bhutto's martyr.
Rana Aftab Ahmed Khan had further pointed out that ceremonies relating to foundation day would kick start from November 20 and those who failed to stir up public sentiments would have no place in party offices. It is worth noting that reports were high that PPP Punjab is ready to sweep existing party organisation structure in order to introduce more dedicated workers.
However, the move was deferred until December 27, the day of BB's martyr but major reshuffling is yet on cards. He also attended a meeting of PPP Lahore secretariat on Monday to listen to their proposals on two main party events after winning elections of February 2008 and forming government in the centre. It may be noted that PPP is losing ground fast in Punjab, especially in urban areas and party leadership is striving hard to regain its strength in the province of Punjab.
