South African farmers delivered more maize to silos last week, raising the total amount of maize brought to market so far this season to 11.23 million tonnes, data showed on Wednesday. Farmers submitted 8,000 tonnes of white maize and 9,000 tonnes of yellow maize to silos in the week to November 14 compared to 14,000 tonnes and 4,000 tonnes, respectively, in the week before, the South African Grain Information Service (SAGIS) said.
The deliveries brought total white maize submissions since the beginning of the marketing season in May to 6.904 million tonnes and yellow maize submissions to 4.322 million tonnes. The latest deliveries have also nudged South Africa - the continent's biggest maize producer - closer to its forecast maize output of 12.02 million tonnes.
