The Port Qasim is a dwelling place of a large number of marine habitat and bionetwork. The mangroves spread over an area of 67,000 acres the second largest in the world, are nurseries of marine flora and fauna. This was stated by Chairman of the Port Qasim Authority (PQA), Afsar Din Talpur.
A PQA statement on Saturday said that he met the delegates of the National Conference on Ecology. Talpur further pointed out that the Environment and Safety Department of the PQA has been instrumental in highlighting mangroves' importance, its expansion and restricting the pollution at the minimum.
He said that the PQA has planted new mangroves nurseries at the places where the same had been dislocated owing to the development process. Talpur also informed that it is mandatory for every industry at the PQA to follow the international standards to combat pollution and waste material disposal.
He further assured that PQA is ready to extend every possible assistance to those who are engaged in the research work on the mangroves. Talpur also informed that the PQA is pursuing a multi-pronged strategy to meet the growing shipping challenges, increase in operational capability, capacity building, provision of infrastructure facilities and acquisition of sophisticated craft.
