The educationist, scholars and representatives of educational institutes from all over country as well as scholars from UK, USA and Germany in their recommendations have underlined the need of the establishment of think-tank consisting of the individuals from Universities, Provincial government and general community for valuable guideline from time to time to the policy makers to make their policies result oriented.
The recommendations were readout in concluding session of Two Day National Conference on Education organised by Faculty of Education University of Sindh in collaboration with Higher Education Commission (HEC) at Elsa Kazi Campus Hyderabad on Thursday late evening. The conference was attended by large number of educationist while 56 research papers, keynote speeches were presented on issues and problems on school education in Pakistan.
The conference participants scholars suggests the government that civil society organisations, specially the NGO's and CBO's should be given major role in public sector education and added that in rural areas those government school buildings, which are not functional, may be handed over to the NGO's and CBO's with financial assistance by the provincial government to make them functional. The scholars while in their presentations presented in last working session were of the view that educational institutions must be target oriented.
The scholars said that contents should be reviewed or evaluated with the passage of time by higher authorities to check its validity and accordance with modern standards and in teacher education programmes environmental concepts should be taught explicitly for maximum benefits and teacher education programmes should be designed in such a way that it could enable teachers to visit environmental sites in order to critically look at environment issues facing the local community.
Scholars underlined that strategies need to be developed for the provision of training and professional development, and for making available teaching and learning resources, which are tailored to teacher's educators' needs. Sufficient funds should be allocated for colleges of Education for providing computers and Internet facility to teachers and students and in order to improve female education, as a first and basic step, it is essential to change or improve the attitude of the people toward social and educational status of female by emphasising Islamic teachings and values, which place man and woman on equal footings in all respect.
The Dean Faculty of Education Dr Parveen Munshi announced that all papers presented in the conference would be published out in a book shape. Dr Jan-e-Alam from Agha Khan University suggested the organisers to form a committee to prepare a useful report for the guideline of the policy makers as well as for the government. Dr Horald Husmann from Germany appreciated Sindh University efforts for organising conference on education and hoped that efforts would be beneficial for improvement of quality of education. Dr Rafia Ahmed Shaikh on this occasion presided over the session, thanked the scholars and educationist who come to attend the conference.
