The Federal Minister for Communications Dr Arbab Alamgir Khan has said that motorway police has introduced a new policing culture not only in Pakistan but also in the whole Asia. Motorway police training institute, Sheikhupura would be upgraded to international standard.
While talking to journalist and addressing the passing out parade ceremony of National Highway & Motorway Police here on Monday at Patrol Officers. "Nation is proud of performance of motorway police and it can be compared to any modern force of the world and other police forces should follow the path of motorway police" added. The minister lauded the motorway police for reduction in accident and, crime rate at the Highway.
He said that he wanted to see all departments as efficient as motorway police. All toll plazas would be given on tender basis from January, which would help to increase revenue by 40 to 50 percent, and it would be spent in improving the roads condition all over country. The minister said that the NH&MP should take all possible steps to control overloading and the proper functioning of weigh stations. He also requested representatives of Truck Unions to co-operate with Motorway Police in this regard.
Speaking on the occasion, Inspector General National Highway and Motorway Police (NH&MP) Muhammad Raffat Pasha said that the training institute of motorway police was established 8 years back, previously, the officers of motorway police were getting training in different training colleges of country but it is first batch of 51 officers of motorway police officers, which has been passed out from this training institute.
He informed that Police Management Board has recognised institute as a complete institute and its new building is also near to completion. He said that training institute has trained more than 5000 traffic police officers of Punjab, Islamabad and Balochistan police and now the police officers from other countries are also attending training courses.
The IG said Motorway Police was awarded the maxim "Icon of Excellence" by high ups. He said that Asian Development Bank (ADB) has declared it as the best public service organisation while United Nations has also chosen this department as the best public organisation for case study. He also advised the passed out officers of Motorway Police to work harder to sustain its credibility and to manifold the same.
