The Islamabad High Court here on Wednesday directed the Director General Crises Management Cell in the Ministry of Interior to appear on Thursday and apprise it about the whereabouts of a missing doctor, Abdur Razzaq. IHC Chief Justice Sardar Mohammad Aslam issued the direction on a writ moved by Afzoona Kausar, the wife of the missing doctor.
Akram Sheikh, counsel for the petitioner, told the bench that few weeks back personnel from the intelligence agencies had visited the house of the doctor for investigation. He alleged that the doctor was in the custody of secret agencies as the visiting personnel assured the household of the doctor's safe return well ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
The counsel claimed that the doctor was being interrogated on the suspicion that he had admitted some high profile terror suspect in the hospital. After hearing his arguments, the Chief Justice remarked that everyone knew where the missing doctor was and objected strongly to the absence of Director of Crises Management Cell during the proceedings. Standing Counsel Raja Aleem Abbasi denied that the doctor was in the custody of the intelligence and said there were no clues about his whereabouts.
At the last hearing, Colonel Iqbal Haider Cheema (Retd) of the Crises Management Cell of the ministry had apprised the court of the efforts being made to trace the missing doctor. The petitioner has said that her husband did not return home after performing his duties at Railways Hospital on September 22 and afterwards dubious calls were received by the family.
