Federal Education Minister Mir Hazar Khan Bijrani said on Friday that Supreme Court decision to vacate stay order against Standing Committee on Education had made it clear that parliament was supreme.
Talking to the media on the occasion of two-day seminar of All Pakistan writers conference 2008 titled "Literature for Peace," arranged by the Pakistan Academy of Litters, he said that as education minister he would attend the coming meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Education, which was probing extra marks awarded to the daughter of Chief Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar. The committee would not violate the Constitution in making any decision, he added.
In response to a question, he said that a uniform education policy would be implemented throughout the country, adding that inter-provincial education ministers meeting would be held on Saturday, which would discuss the draft policy.
Bijrani said that draft policy would be launched on internet to get the valuable proposals of the scholars and other people. Addressing the participants, he said that literature played a significant role in the socio-cultural uplift of the society and civilisation.
The minister said that literature was the outcome of deep reflection and intuition, which brought universal realities to the fore. Literature, he said, was the custodian of high values and the mental and ideological traditions of different nations, and added that literature was the dire requirement of a society, because it played a significant role in the promotion and survival of social values.
He said that peace was the need of the day as horror and cruelty had prevailed all over the world and literature could play a vital role in overcoming these problems by promoting peace, love and amity throughout the country. He said that literature gave the message of peace as it was not limited to any region, and added the vision of literary figures could bring reforms in the society by creating awareness among the masses.
Pakistan Academy of Letters Chairman Fakhar Zaman said: "History tells us that it is the literature, which plays vital role in integrating the people for creating peace in the world. "A literary channel would be launched to promote and give life to literature, which would telecast only literary works," he said.
