In a latest twist to Farah Hameed Dogar's scandal, the unlawful migration of PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif's daughter some years back echoed in National Assembly on Friday.
According to media reports, Maryum Nawaz, daughter of PML-N chief, whose husband is also a sitting member of the lower house, had been given undue favour to migrate from Army Medical College, Rawalpindi to King Edward Medical College, Lahore by violating all the rules and procedures during the maiden reign of her father in 1991.
Shahnaz Sheikh, a former State Minister for Health on a point of order waving the magazine, where the story was published said that look at this, which was being distributed outside the Parliament having a similar story like Farah Hameed Dogar, which has now become a part of PML-N campaign against the Chief Justice.
Farah Dogar is also daughter of this nation, she said, adding please stop assassinating her character by highlighting a non-issue. "I also request Mian Nawaz Sharif to leave such pity issues and concentrate on the important national challenges faced by the nation," she remarked.
"Farah Dogar should not be traumatised like this over a non-issue". Without naming anybody, she said that there are dozens of MPs, who have allegedly got fake degrees. This Parliament should avoid indulging in such issues at this critical situation, she stressed.
But, there was no categorical policy statement on the floor of the house by PML-N members to contradict the allegation levelled against the daughter of the PML-N chief as her husband Mohammad Safder was also present. However, one of the PML-N vocal lawmaker from Rawalpindi, Hanif Abbasi took the mike and addressed directly the Prime Minister, who was sitting in the House at the time, saying that I request you that please set the decorum of this House.
"Character of our leader is being maligned just to hide the issue of Farah Dogar," he remarked. "Please stop such campaigns, otherwise character of every member in this house would be exposed," he said apparently in a warning tone.
Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani said that nothing could be distributed within the premises of Parliament without permission of the speaker and there are procedures to lodge complaints or express their views. Deputy Speaker National Assembly Faisal Karim Kundi, who was presiding over the session maintained that distribution of anything within the premises of the Parliament is against the law and assured the members to check who had distributed the magazine.
