Former Prime Minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Quaid Muhammad Nawaz Sharif on Friday said that time had come to purge the Constitution of Pakistan and political system from ill effects of dictatorship.
Addressing the office bearers of PML-N lawyers' and women wings, legislators and party activists at his Raiwind residence, Nawaz said that if sitting parliament showed negligence in purging the Constitution and political system from remains of dictatorship, it would be great injustice to the nation.
Nawaz said that the PML-N is waging a just struggle and would never compromise on the solidarity of country, supremacy of constitution and principles. He called for resignation of chief justice of Pakistan Abdul Hamid Dogar without further loss of time.
He asked the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) to fulfil its pledges on restoration of judiciary as on November 2 positions and repeal of 17th amendment. He also urged the PPP to get implemented Charter of Democracy (CoD) and fulfil promises made with the nation. If the PPP did not agree over scrapping 17th amendment, the PML-N with the support of other political parties would table bill in the house for the repeal of this amendment, he said.
He further said that judges should be non-partisans, therefore, the government should make appointment of judges in accordance with the Charter of Democracy. He said that it was high time that the entire nation should get united to put the country on right path.
