The Lahore District Consumer Court on Friday imposed a fine of Rs 5,038 upon a bakers shop at Garhi Shahu Lahore for selling a fruitcake having hair in it. The Petitioner, Fahad Noor submitted that he purchased a cake from the respondent bakery and as he started consuming, a hair was detected in the cake. He alleged that the company prepared a substandard product.
He sent a legal notice to the manager of the bakery demanding him to pay the damages and also return the price of the cake but did not receive reply. He prayed to the court to direct the respondent to return the price of the cake with damages of Rs 2,80,000.
The counsel of the respondent submitted before the court that the purchasing receipt did not make it clear that the cake was purchased from his client. After hearing arguments of both the parties, the judge ordered the bakery to pay Rs 5,000 and refund the price of the cake amounting Rs 38. He also ordered the respondent bakery to issue proper purchasing receipt in future as the present receipt did not have proper information about the purchased product and their address.
