Karachi Transport Action Committee and Anjuman-e-Ittehad Bus Malkan here on Sunday agreed to reduce public transport fare by Rs 3 to Rs 5 provided the local cost of petroleum products, mainly diesel, was slashed by Rs 15. In a press statement they said they were alive to public demand for reduction in transport fares.
Marked reduction in the oil cost at the international markets could be replicated in the national market too, benefiting the general public, said Mohammad Ashraf Banglori, President of the Karachi Transport Action Committee. Other office bearers of the committee including Chaudhry Mazhar Hussein, Lala Sultan, Tanzeem Khan and Nazir Banglori said the transporters had only recently reduced the fares and are willing to cut it down further.
The decrease in the oil and petroleum rates, they said would help all people of the country to have food and other important items of daily use at cost effective rates. The transporters said oil price holds its direct impact on the entire economy and extreme consideration was needed to see that public plight is efficiently addressed.
