Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, Federal Minister for Population Welfare has said that the reason behind failure of the Lady Health Worker Programme is due to lack of co-ordination between federal and provincial governments.
Addressing a press conference here on Monday, she said that government committed to provide and ensure the health facilities at every corner of the country. She said the government would hire about 0.1 million-lady health workers.
She said that like Bangladesh, Iran and other countries, the Parliament Forum on board should focus on tackling the issues regarding family planning and increasing population in the country.
Federal Minister further said that all the programs and issues related to Mother-child health, family planning and population should be brought under one ministry.
She said that family planning is not the only way to control the increasing population but there is need to overcome the main reasons behind this which is lack of education, poverty and lack of awareness among the masses. She urged media to play its role in creating awareness among the masses through advocacy and massive campaigns in this regard. She paid rich tribute to the efforts of Benazir Bhutto for improving Mother-Child health care in the country. She said that the aim behind organising one day seminar on Population and Development issues for Parliamentarians is to unite them and motivate them for their full support for overcoming issues regarding population increase and Mother/child health care in the country.
