Shabnam Bilal of Habib Bank Limited and Ali Sajjad Faisal of Wapda clinch the Women's and Men's singles titles of 46th National Table Tennis Championship played here at Wapda Sports Complex on Monday. President Pakistan Table Tennis Federation (PTTF) S. M. Sibtain was the chief guest and distributed prizes.
In the women's singles final, IInd seed Shabnam Bilal of HBL stunned top seed Sadia Falaksher (WAPDA) 4-1 in the best of seven games. The score was 12-10, 15-17, 11-7, 11-5 and 11-4. It was only in the second set when Sadia showed glimpses of her real talent otherwise it was all the way through for Shabnam, who also overwhelmed the same rival Sadia in last edition's semi-final.
In the Men's singles, 2007 Champion Saleem Abbas acted as coach of Ali Sajjad Faisal, who clinched men's singles title by defeating veteran Asim Qureshi in straight sets. The score was 11-5, 11-9, 11-9 and 11-5. Faisalabad-born Sajjad gave no room to Asim and added another feather in Wapda's winning cap, who earlier clinched gold in men's team event, men's doubles, mixed doubles. Meanwhile, Wapda Sports Board's Vice President Khalid Mehmood, MTFA's President Mian Rizwan Ali congratulated the finalists in all five events and admired the arrangements made for the event.
