Rates moved both ways with modest fluctuations on the currency market on Wednesday, dealers said. The rupee fell three paisa against dollar on the interbank market for buying at 78.88 and two paisa for selling at 78.92, they said.
Amid third session, the dollar was on the back foot in thin holiday trade in Asia, weighed down by fresh data indicating persistent weakness in the US economy. The dollar edged down to 90.83 yen in Tokyo morning trade from 90.96 in New York late Tuesday. Markets in Japan were closed Tuesday for a holiday. The euro firmed to 1.3948 dollars from 1.3924 and was flat at 126.66 yen.
OPEN MARKET RATES: The rupee lost 50 paisa against the dollar for buying at 79.00 while it did not show any change for selling at 79.50, dealers said. The rupee showed mixed trend against euro for buying and selling at Rs 108.40 and 109.00, they said.

RUPEE IN LAHORE: The Pak rupee remained weak against the greenback and British Pound in Lahore currency markets on Wednesday. The dollar opened at Rs 78.70 (buying) and Rs 79.50 (selling) against Rs 78.50 (buying) and Rs 79.00 (selling) of Tuesday. It observed minor change during Wednesday's trading and closed at Rs 78.80 and 79.60 on buying and selling counters, respectively. Similarly, the local currency showed marginal decline in its worth against the pound sterling. The British pound was purchased and sold at Rs 117.00 and Rs 118.00 as compared to Tuesday closing of Rs 116.00 and Rs 119.00, respectively.
RUPEE IN ISLAMABAD AND RAWALPINDI: The dollar gained 10 paisa against the rupee at the open currency markets of Islamabad and Rawalpindi on Wednesday. The dollar opened at Rs 78.60 (buying) and Rs 78.70 (selling) against last rate of Rs 78.50 (buying) and Rs 79 (selling). It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 78.60 (buying) and Rs 78.70 (selling). Pound Sterling opened at Rs 117 (buying) and Rs 118 (selling) against last rate of Rs 116 (buying) and Rs 117 (selling). It did not observe further change in the second session and closed at Rs 117 (buying) and Rs 118 (selling).
