Industrial workers children: ambit of free education and scholarship being extended, says minister
Punjab Labour Minister Ashraf Khan Sohna has said that the ambit of free education and scholarship for the children of industrial workers was being extended. Besides, reserving 30 percent seats quota in all disciplines of Comsats Lahore, seats had also been reserved for them in other prestigious educational institutes.
This was stated by him while addressing a cheque distribution ceremony in Comsats Lahore campus during which cheques over rupees 11.63 million were given to 266 students' children of industrial workers as scholarships.
Sohna said that children of industrial workers admitted in Comsats were entitled to free education and hostel facilities besides getting Rs 3500 per month as scholarships, which in case of those availing hostel facilities was Rs 2300 pm. Moreover, students of districts other than Lahore not availing hostel facility also got Rs 2000 per month in addition as well.
The Minister while addressing the students said that admission at this prestigious institution had provided them with a springboard to leap towards a shining future. He said that he hoped they would take full advantage of this opportunity as a glorious future awaited them on completion of education.
Sohna said that absolutely free education, textbooks, stationary, uniform and transport facilities were available to the children of industrial workers in 36 Workers Welfare Schools set up in different districts throughout the province. The Minister said that evening shift was being introduced in these schools from the next academic session to expand the scope of these facilities. Ashraf Sohna later handed over scholarship cheques of over Rs 11.63 million to 266 students.
