Sindh Home Minister Zulfikar Mirza has rebutted newspaper reports, attributed to Mumtaz Ali Bhutto as having said that as per the home minister there remained no need for investigation into the Karsaz tragedy after the death of Benazir Bhutto.
The minister said, in clear words, that investigation into the Karsaz blast and resultant loss of human lives was in progress, and the government was making all efforts to bring all those involved to book. In a rejoinder, the minister said that "politically dishonest elements" were engaged in efforts to weaken the present government morally and to destabilise it through their conspiring and nefarious designs, and opponents of the government were working as their tools.
He said: "The only objective of these elements is to destroy democracy, ruin the national institutions and push the poor into suffering". He said that Mumtaz Bhutto "does not enjoy so much support" of people that he could even win a UC election. He said that ethnic division of Sindh had been due to his wrong policies, and Sindh people are suffering on this account.
