The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is delighted at the meeting reportedly held between the top leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Muslim League Quaid-e-Azam (PML-Q). The Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Dr Babar Awan said on Friday that meeting between Nawaz Sharif and Pervaiz Elahi is a good omen for the continuity of democracy in Pakistan.
He said the PML-N was opposing and supporting the PPP government in centre and province of the Punjab simultaneously. 'The PPP welcomes the reported dialogue between the two factions of PML and terms it as a good omen for the growth of democracy in Pakistan,' he said.
However, he added that differences between the PML-N and PPP were mitigating with every passing day, which would further strengthen the democratic institutions in Pakistan. Awan however avoided replying whether he is mentioning restoration former Chief Justice, Iftikhar Chaudhary and said that both the parties have evolved consensus to protect democracy. He also negated the impression about forming of a national government and said that the Constitution supports only one form of government and that is Parliamentary, which is already in place in the country.
