The Chief Minster Punjab, Mian Shahbaz Sharif has warned of strict action against any individual or group found involved in creating law and order situation in the university.
' No one will be spared as law rules above all,' he said to newsmen in the three-day International Conference on History, Politics and Society organised by the Department of History, Punjab University in collaboration with the Pakistan Study Centre on Monday.
When asked about the Governor, Salman Tasser's recent meeting with Chaudhery Pervez Elahi and Chaudhary Shujat Hussain, the CM avoided answering the question.
Later, he talked to the students belonging to the University Student Federation (USF), who were protesting against the rival organisation involved in torturing the students in hostels.
They demanded that the CM should take action against them. On this occasion, Shahbaz said that he would re-initiate the inquiry of the whole incident. Earlier, while speaking on the occasion, Shahbaz said that Punjab Government's top priority was to provide speedy justice, peace, education and health facilities to the common man.
He appreciated the efforts of the vice chancellor, PU, Professor Dr Mujahid Kamran and Professor Dr Qalb-e-Abid for organising an international conference on an important topic. He also said that this moot would help highlight Punjab's glory abroad. Further, he said that Punjab was deprived of justice under the British law despite its importance in the world's ancient heritage, the Indus valley civilisation.
Shahbaz said that the great poets and saints of Punjab spread their message of justice, brotherhood and peace in the world. David Gilmartin form North Carolina State University while presenting his paper, 'Conflicted history of law in Punjab and its legacies,' said that rule of law was critically important in the history of British Punjab and in Pakistani Punjab as well.
The VC in his address appreciated the History Department and Pakistan Study Centre for organising the successful international moot. He said that the CM's presence in this conference proved his commitment to the promotion of education and research in the province.
The Chairman, Department of History, Professor Dr Qalb-e-Abid in his address welcomed all the participants of the event and highlighted its objectives. He hoped that the three-day moot would have fruitful discussion and meaningful analysis as 30 national and foreign scholars would present research papers in the moot.
