The President of Pakistan-Malaysia Friendship Association, Shahid Jawed Qureshi, has said that Malaysia is soon opening a trade and investment centre in Karachi, and tourist centre in Islamabad. Talking to Business Recorder, he said that both these centres are aimed at enhancing the existing bilateral trade and economic co-operation between the two countries.
He said that a Malaysian company, IJM, will be constructing the tallest skyscraper in Karachi at a cost of $200 million soon. He said that 47-storey 'Information Technology (IT) Centre' building complex project will be located near 'Civic Centre', Karachi.
He said the Malaysian firms are highly specialised in the construction and electronic industry and Pakistan can take benefit from their experience to advance in these fields. He said that Pakistan and Malaysia signed a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) in November 2007 and are first two members of the OIC who have enforced FTA in January 2008.
The agreement will further facilitate and strengthen the two-way trade and investment as well as enhance economic and industrial co-operation on long-term basis between Malaysia and Pakistan. He said that a few years ago Malaysia introduced 'Malaysia My Second Home' scheme to promote tourism and make investment in the country.
