Two missiles fired from what is believed to be a US pilotless aircraft on Thursday killed five militants in South Waziristan, while three separate incidents involving suspected Taliban insurgents in other areas left seven people dead, officials and residents said. The missiles targeted a vehicle carrying several suspected insurgents at around 11:15 am (0615 GMT) in the Kari Kot area of South Waziristan tribal district.
"Five militants died and three received serious injuries," said a security official, who spoke on condition of anonymity. "According to the information we have received from the locals, all those killed were al Qaeda militants of Turkmen origin," he said. Meanwhile, suspected militants fired three rockets in a residential area of Khar, the main town in the Bajaur tribal district.
"The rockets hit some houses in Civil Colony and killed three people," a government official Shakir Ullah said. Separately, in Swat the followers of Maulana Fazlullah, executed three people in public, said a police official who spoke on condition of anonymity.
"Taliban slit the throat of an unidentified person in Green Chaok (Green Crossing) area of Swat's main city Mingora and left a note saying he was a spy," he added. Two more bodies of executed people were found in other parts of the town. Separately, rebels blew up a police check post in the suburb of Peshawar. The explosion in Mithra village killed one policeman and injured two, according to a private TV channel.
